The importance of traceability

We think it’s important to be transparent in the way we source and manufacture our products. That’s why each and every Salmon Luke bowl, fork and spoon is openly traceable, via a unique serial number, throughout the entire production process.

We believe that we are the first company in the world to produce children’s products where everything from raw materials to packaging is fully tested and traceable on a product by product level. This brings a transparency to the supply chain of children’s products which has never been seen before.

In our opinion, traceability is important for two reasons.

Firstly, it lays bare our operations for all to see, so our customers have the ability to make a choice about us based on facts. Do they agree with the way we run our business, our product quality, testing, manufacturing process and carbon efficiency? Or do they choose to favour another company whose business closer reflects their own values? Only by being transparent can we facilitate an informed decision making process.

Secondly, traceability provides the ultimate tool for tracking the quality of our products. If for any reason one of our products fails an inspection at any stage within its working life, we can call upon the exact history of that product. Then, if we suspect that there is a possibility the defect could occur in a similar batch or in another product made on a particular day, we have the ability to recall and replace products on a unit by unit basis. This also gives us the capability to fine tune our manufacturing process and continually make improvements to our products.
